The Air Quality III Conference
Mercury, Trace Elements, and Particulate Matter
September 9-12, 2002 Marriott Crystal Gateway Arlington, VA
Conference Objective
Mercury and airborne particulate matter are two air pollutants that coninue to receive much attention and be of great concern. The first two Air Quality Conferences reviewed the state of science and policy on airborne pollutants, mainly from utility power generation, with a focus on mercury and particulate matter emissions. Science, government, and business representatives met, discussed, and developed proactive responses to breakthroughs, questions, and concerns involving air quality.
The Air Quality III Conference comprises two streams of discussion: one focused on mercury and the other on trace elements and particulate matter. This conference will again provide an opportunity for leading representatives from many fields to take part in in-depth discussion of the issues involving air emissions. This year, the conference will feature expanded coverage of control methods, including advanced research and development, as well as field applications, and new sessions on mercury management from by-products and advanced power systems.
"America and the world share this common goal: we must foster economic growth in ways that protect our environment. We must encourage growth that will provide a better life for citizens, while protecting the land, the water, and air that sustain life.”
- President George W.Bush
Sponsor Information
The Air Quality III Conference is organized and sponsored by the Energy & Environmental Research Center, University of North Dakota. Collaborating sponsors include the following:
· U.S. Department of Energy National Energy Technology Laboratory
· EPRI
· Center for Air Toxic Metals through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development, National Center for Environmental Research and Quality Assurance.
Dear Air Quality III Participants:I am pleased to invite you to the Energy and Environmental Research Center's Air Quality III Conference in September 2002. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is cosponsoring this important conference, because it provides an excellent opportunity to build energy and environmental partnerships. As the deadline draws near for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's proposed regulations for mercury and nickel emissions from coal- and oil-fired power plants, respectively, it is imperative that events such as this conference are held to address the issues from a variety of perspectives. Many of the presentations at this conference will present study results that are critical to making those regulatory decisions. In February 2002 President Bush announced the Clear Skies Initiative, the most aggressive legislative improvements to the Clean Air Act since 1990. The Clear Skies Initiative will reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides by 67 percent, sulfur dioxide by 73 percent, and mercury by 69 percent over today's levels. It will mitigate the health and environmental effects of most major air pollutants and help States meet the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. As EPA moves forward on several initiatives to improve air quality, the Air Quality III Conference is a timely opportunity for industry, government, and the research community to discuss the challenges of economic energy production coupled with environmental awareness. Please refer to the Energy and Environmental Research Center's enclosed materials for conference contacts and additional information. I look forward to this conference providing an arena to move forward on air quality matters, and I encourage your participation with that goal in mind.
Sincerely yours,
Christine Todd Whitman, AdministratorU.S. Environmental Protection Agency

April 23 through 26
Dear Sir/Madam,
The Lumex Ltd. company invites you to visit its booth #Ñ1.117 at the Analytica 2002
Exhibition, which will be held in April 23 through 26, 2002, in Munich, Germany:
"Trade fair for the future
Analysis is experiencing a dramatic development: the rapid rise in biotechnology. Society and the business world are changing to a previously undreamtof degree. The frontiers between different fields of industry are blurring or disappearing completely. Chemical engineering, medicine, pharmaceuticals, cosmetic, the food industry, seed producers, information technology and the computer industry, environmental engineering, the world of finance... they have all entered into a mighty process of convergence that has created a new field: the life-sciences business.
At the centre of this dynamic development is the laboratory - for pure science, research, and industrial applications.
Analytica is both a focus and a reflection of this global process. It is the key European trade fair for the international world of laboratory practice. With expertise for the entire field of analysis.
Every two years, the specialist world meets at Analytica. Frontiers are penetrated, new perspectives opened up, goals and objectives formulated, laboratories are equipped for tomorrows challenges, and voyages of discovery embarked upon."
During the exhibition our company will display the following devices:
RA-915+ Mercury Analyzer
